Sally Rippin

Sally Rippin, the children's author, will be joining us on Wednesday during our Book Talk at 9.00am. Sally will be reading and discussing her books at 10.00am. Sally Rippin will be signing books after her presentation and children are welcome to bring their books along.

Well-being

We have been conducting a number of well-being workshops related to forming and maintaining positive friendships.  We have been talking about how friendships are formed, how positive friendships makes us feel and contribute to our well-being. The children have also been making a recipe for friendship soup and discussing what ingredients are needed to be a good friend. Another workshop has been reflecting on the strengths and unique attributes of each child by creating ID cards, building on the children's self-worth and self-esteem.

Walk-a-thon Money

Thank you to all the parents who have sent to school Walk-a-thon money.  The home group who brings in their money to school first, from the whole school, receives pizza party (Kevin, Sia and Elizabeth are in competition).
Your donations are very much appreciated.

Inquiry Update

·   The children have been invited to think about and organise an experience to be shared with the year one students as part of our 'Making a Difference Festival'. We have asked the year two children the following questions:-
What changes are important to year ones? 
    What are we trying to achieve with this festival and what part do the students play? What do the year ones think about it? 
    What will our festival look like?
The children have been organising and preparing for their fact finding excursion to the year one neighbourhood.  

Prea, Zoe and Milla came to talk to us

Prea, Zoe and Milla from year 3/4 came to visit us last week. They talked to us about their trip to India.  The girls spoke about their parent's foundation called 'Yatra'. The families visited two Indian schools, one in Sawai Madopour and one in Pondercherry.

The children in our neighbourhood reported on the talk.  Here are some of their reports.

Prea, Zoe and Milla (Year 3/4) went to India.  They saw tigers out free at the tiger reserve.  Prea, Zoe and Milla taught the children how to make chatterboxes and paper planes. Prea and Zoe’s mum is a dentist.  Their mum checks teeth.

Abbie

The girls (Prea, Zoe and Milla from Year 3/4) came over and talked about their trip to India.  Their talk was about helping Indian families.  I discovered that Indian schools have no desks, that some tigers roam free and that people have to go to a well to get water and balance it on their heads in clay pots.

Eva

The thing that inspired me the most was the tiger reserve.  The reason they have the tiger reserve is some hunters can’t shoot them. The special thing about their classes is that they are in huts.

Some of the grade 3/4’s (Prea, Zoe and Milla) went to India and it was interesting. They went to a tiger reserve.  Their mum is a dentist and she checked the children’s teeth.  Indian schools are much different to our schools.

Tissues

Just a quick reminder that we are in desperate need of tissues. Winter is here and children are getting the sniffles.  Thank you to all the parents who have already brought tissues to our neighbourhood.
