Inteviews

Thank you to all the parents and students who attended the student-led interviews. A very successful end to term 2.

Have a wonderful holiday!

Inquiry presentations to our neighbourhood

The children worked in small groups as part of our ‘Making a difference festival’ to investigate ways in which each group can make a difference to the year one students. Each group made a proposal to either teach or demonstrate to the year one students an activity. Teams gathered evidence using various methods to support their proposal. Their findings were presented to the neighbourhood.

Book Talk

Thank you to all the parents who have assisted us with Book Talk in Semester 1. We have really appreciated giving up your time to join us every Wednesday morning at 9.00am.  The sessions have been very successful  and the parents and children have really enjoyed them.

Thank you to the parents who joined on Wednesday for our final Book Talk for Term 2.
Thank you also to our Year 10 work experience student Kyle (right) who worked with us on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Inquiry update

The year two children continue to develop understandings on ‘Change’ as part of our big understanding, ‘Be the change you want to see in the world’. They are currently investigating ways in which they can make a difference to the year one children, as part of our ‘Making a Difference Festival’.  The children are proposing a variety of different skills to teach the year ones. Each team has been discussing ways in which they can gather evidence to support their proposal and present it to the year one neighbourhood.
A few weeks ago the children conducted a variety of surveys in the year one neighbourhood.

Sally Rippin Visit

This Wednesday we were lucky to have Sally Rippin, author of the Billie B Brown and Hey Jack books, visit the year two neighbourhood. She joined us for Book Talk as a book leader and then spoke to us about what inspired her to write her books and become an author. The year two students were very excited to hear that Sally wrote her first stories when she was only 7 years old, and have busily begun writing their own stories. Sally finished her visit with a book signing, and the students were given the opportunity to have their Sally Rippin books signed by the author!

Green Teams

Seeking a parent/helper one hour a week to support a small group of sustainability leaders

We are currently on the look out for a parent (or parents, grandparents etc) who is able to support the Junior School Council students for 1 hour a week on a Friday afternoon. The group is also being supported by Kerri Gibson (assistant principal), Tim Aris (5/6 teacher) and Alexandra Hilvert (3/4 teacher and sustainability coordinator). The role would involve working with a group of 10 committed and passionate students (from yrs 3-6). This role will not require any planning and there will always be a teacher to support you.

At the moment the students are beginning to brainstorm a whole school sustainability celebration day in term 3. This event will involve all students, teachers and interested parents. The Junior School Council's goal is to empower students to take leadership and extend their student voice across our community. This role represents an opportunity to support students to make a positive difference. Please to or email or speak with us if you are keen and please encourage others who you think would enjoy this opportunity.

Sally Rippin

Sally Rippin, the children's author, will be joining us on Wednesday during our Book Talk at 9.00am. Sally will be reading and discussing her books at 10.00am. Sally Rippin will be signing books after her presentation and children are welcome to bring their books along.

Well-being

We have been conducting a number of well-being workshops related to forming and maintaining positive friendships.  We have been talking about how friendships are formed, how positive friendships makes us feel and contribute to our well-being. The children have also been making a recipe for friendship soup and discussing what ingredients are needed to be a good friend. Another workshop has been reflecting on the strengths and unique attributes of each child by creating ID cards, building on the children's self-worth and self-esteem.
